William Blake

I don't know how I managed to overlook William Blake until now, especially as I had a bit of a special interest in his work when I was at High School.  His Songs of Innocence and of Experience and his extraordinary engravings fired my imagination, although the fairly overt sensuous nature of some his engravings might have had something to do with my interest.

THE SICK ROSE

O Rose thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.
